Art/Arte: Exploring different media, students will create several different art projects and will study different artists throughout history. ​/ Al explorar diferentes medios, los estudiantes crearán varios proyectos artísticos diferentes y se estudiarán diferentes artistas a lo largo de la historia.

AVID: AVID teaches students valuable study and organizational skills necessary to be successful in college-prep courses. / El programa AVID enseña a los estudiantes destrezas necesarias para que tengan éxito en las clases que les van a preparar para la universidad.

Teacher’s Assistant/Asistente de maestro (7th and 8th only): Do you like to help younger students? Think you might like to be a teacher someday? Or just like to help? Students choosing this elective will be assigned to assist in one of our primary classrooms. You are expected to speak Spanish in the classroom and help teachers by working with small groups of children. / ¿Te gusta ayudar a los estudiantes más jóvenes? Piensas que te gustaría ser maestro algún día? ¿O sólo quieres ayudar? Los estudiantes que eligen esta optativa serán asignados para ayudar en una de nuestras aulas de primaria. Technology/Tecnología: In this class, you will use a variety of Google tools to research, plan, and create visually appealing presentations on a variety of topics. Learn techniques for presenting in front of an audience in an engaging way. You will also be exposed to interesting activities in Google Maps and create your own website in Google Sites. / E​ n esta clase, utilizará una variedad de herramientas de Google para investigar, planificar y crear presentaciones visualmente atractivas sobre una variedad de temas. Aprenda técnicas para presentar frente a una audiencia de una manera atractiva. También estará expuesto a actividades interesantes en Google Maps y creará su propio sitio web en Google Sites.

Forensics/Debate: Do you like to debate topics? This course is for students who want to learn to think clearly and express themselves effectively in front of an audience. It will help you develop self-confidence and prepare you for high school and college. / ¿te gusta discutir? STEM / MESA: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) course designed to educate students in four specific disciplines. Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate subjects, STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world and solutions, emphasizing project-based learning. Students will have the opportunity to showcase their findings by competing in local and possibility state level competitions.

Anthropology/Antropología: Anthropology is the study of human beings and their cultures, from prehistoric times to today. In this course we will study cultures around the world through the four major branches of anthropology: cultural, physical, linguistic, and archeology. While creating art, listening to music, tasting food, and doing a variety of hands-on projects, we will learn about the treasures of diverse cultures in our world. / La antropología es el estudio de los seres humanos y sus culturas, desde los tiempos prehistóricos hasta la actualidad. En este curso estudiaremos las culturas de todo el mundo a través de las cuatro ramas principales de la antropología: cultural, física, lingüística y arqueológica. Mientras creamos arte, escuchamos música, probamos comida y hacemos una variedad de proyectos prácticos, aprenderemos acerca de los tesoros de diversas culturas en nuestro mundo.

Study Skills/Clase de Estudio: Do you need time and a place to complete homework? Get organized and learn to manage your time while completing assignments in Academic Study Skills. / ¿Necesitas tiempo y un lugar para completar la tarea? Organícese y aprenda a administrar su tiempo mientras completa las tareas en Habilidades de estudio académico.

Theatre/Teatro: In this class, we will train and rehearse for Spanish-language theatrical productions. All students will be required to perform. In addition, there will be required after-school dress rehearsals and performances throughout the year. / En esta clase, entrenaremos y ensayaremos para producciones teatrales en español. Todos los estudiantes deberán presentarse. Además, se requerirán ensayos de vestimenta después de la escuela y actuaciones durante todo el año.

Band/Banda: Band class is a year long course open to all levels of instrumental music experience. The course offers instruction on woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments*+ with a focus on the skills necessary for long-term student success. Students will focus on fundamentals including instrument setup, proper posture and playing position, development of characteristic tone quality, training in music literacy, and performing as part of an ensemble. Students will perform for the school community in the Fall and Spring. Students with more experience will have opportunities to play more advanced literature and community performances. This course may be repeated each year during grades 6-8.

*All instruments are available through a lending library at CCLA and a partnership with the Music for Schools program. Students will select and be assigned an instrument at the beginning of the school year.

+Students with prior experience with guitar, ukulele, or another string instrument are welcome to join. String players will be supported, but strings instruction will not be a primary focus of the course.

La clase de banda es un curso de un año abierto a todos los niveles de experiencia musical instrumental. El curso ofrece instrucción sobre instrumentos de viento de madera, metal y percusión * + con un enfoque en las habilidades necesarias para el éxito de los estudiantes a largo plazo. Los estudiantes se centrarán en los fundamentos que incluyen la configuración del instrumento, la postura correcta y la posición de juego, el desarrollo de la calidad de tono característica, la capacitación en alfabetización musical y la actuación como parte de un conjunto. Los estudiantes actuarán para la comunidad escolar en el otoño y la primavera. Los estudiantes con más experiencia tendrán la oportunidad de tocar literatura más avanzada y presentaciones en la comunidad. Este curso puede repetirse cada año durante los grados 6-8.

* Todos los instrumentos están disponibles a través de una biblioteca de préstamos en CCLA y una asociación con el programa Music for Schools. Los estudiantes seleccionarán y se les asignará un instrumento al comienzo del año escolar.

+ Los estudiantes con experiencia previa con guitarra, ukelele u otro instrumento de cuerda pueden unirse. Se admitirán reproductores de cuerdas, pero la instrucción de cuerdas no será el enfoque principal del curso.

Latin Film Studies/Estudio del cine latino: This course is designed for students in an intermediate to advanced Spanish level with focus on hispanic culture and language through film. Films will be selected from a variety of Hispanic countries, emphasizing the connexion between language, culture, society and visual representation. ​In this course, we will study (and in a fragmentary way) the text and context of some of these fragment worlds. Through the analysis of films from Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Spain, the United States, Mexico, film genres, aesthetic practices and sociological and political concepts (such as socioeconomic class, gender, ideology, race) will be examined./ ​Este curso está diseñado para estudiantes de nivel intermedio a avanzado de español con enfoque en la cultura hispana y el lenguaje a través del cine. Las películas serán seleccionadas de una variedad de países hispanos, enfatizando la conexión entre el idioma, la cultura, la sociedad y la representación visual. En este curso, estudiaremos (y de manera fragmentaria) el texto y el contexto de algunos de estos mundos fragmentarios. A través del análisis de películas de Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, España, Estados Unidos, México, se examinarán géneros cinematográficos, prácticas estéticas y conceptos sociológicos y políticos (como clase socioeconómica, género, ideología, raza).

Math Shadow/Ayuda con matemáticas: Do you think that you would benefit from some help in your math class? Are there concepts that you still are not grasping? Do you need extra math practice? This class might be for you to bump your math confidence. ¿Crees que te beneficiarías de alguna ayuda en tu clase de matemáticas? ¿Hay conceptos que todavía no entiendes? ¿Necesitas práctica adicional de matemáticas?
