The Director of Educational Support Services is directly responsible to the Superintendent of Schools for the operation of curriculum, instruction, assessment and reporting, state and federal categorical programs, library and other student support services. The District has worked very hard over the past several years in developing instructional expertise to address language arts, mathematics, social studies and science standards and in implementing a comprehensive staff development program to help teachers improve each student’s academic performance.
The District’s efforts have included developing a thorough assessment system that uses a variety of sources to help measure each student’s level of achievement. These measurements include standardized tests, local performance assessments (including writing samples, analysis of oral reading and comprehension skills, progress towards mastery of math facts, problem-solving, and algebra), and Advanced Placement Class performance. Teachers use this assessment and evaluation information system to individualize their academic program to best meet the needs of each student.
