Ferrer to take role as Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services

Windsor, California — The Windsor Unified School District is proud to announce that Sharon Ferrer has been named the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services for the 2022-23 school year. This is a new position, which is an elevation for the previous role of Director of Educational Services, which was held by Lisa Saxon.
Ferrer has most recently been the principal of Cali Calmecac Language Academy, Windsor’s bilingual charter school.
“This promotion is an exciting next step to my career in educational leadership,” Ferrer said. “I have greatly enjoyed working within WUSD as a CCLA administrator, have always felt the support of the district office and the WUSD school board, and wanted to embark on this new position which will allow me to touch the lives of all of the students in our district.”
“We always like to promote internally, and when you have a candidate like Sharon, it makes it easy,” said Superintendent Jeremy Decker.
“She has the experience, the vision, and the knowledge to continue moving the district forward.”
Ferrer graduated from Brown University in 1996 with two degrees: a B.A. in Biology and a B.A. in Hispanic Literature and Culture and began her career in education directly after graduating. She moved to Madrid, Spain, and taught Pre-K and then high school math/science for five years at the American School of Madrid obtaining her teaching credential in a program with Michigan State University for international teachers.
Upon returning to the States, she taught math/science at Napa High School, and later transitioned into the position of Guidance Counselor. She obtained her master’s degree in School Counseling at Sonoma State University.
After Napa High school, she moved to Cloverdale High School where she was a School Guidance Counselor for many years, but after budget cuts caused her position to be eliminated, she began to explore the world of school administration.
Her first administrative job was Assistant Principal at Rancho Cotate High School, followed by becoming the Assistant Principal and Principal at CCLA. She has been a part of WUSD for eight years.
“As the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, I will have the opportunity to infuse a strong systems organizational structure within the entire district and ensure that our principals collaborate on a regular basis to solidify multi-grade articulation and best instructional practices,” she said. “I am proud to be a member of the Windsor Town community and all three of my daughters have been educated solely in the Windsor Unified school system. My appreciation for our schools is deep-seated, both as a parent and as an educator.
“Transparency and strong relationships with staff are the driving forces of my leadership style,” she added. “I feel honored to have the opportunity to help WUSD continue to offer an amazing educational experience while helping orchestrate change over time in response to the evolving educational needs and demographics of our student population.”
“We can’t wait for Sharon to start on our District admin team,” said Director of Human Resources Pete Sullivan. “She’s been a valuable contributor to our district for many years, and we know she’s going to help us continue that upward trajectory.”
Ferrer will transition to her new role immediately, as Saxon has been appointed the superintendent of the Wright Elementary School District.
